Why we should learn foreign languages?

Nowadays it's very important to know at least one foreign language. It'll help us not only at studies or in job, but also in everyday living. I'd like to present some of reasons to learn language of other nations.

To develop confidence
Learning a foreign language is satifying experience and a serious confidence booster. You’ll have to overcome some of your fears and doubts, learn more about yourself, and meet new people. It'd be also easier for you to visit other countries, you'd vave an opportunity to test yourself.

Increase your brain power
A psychologist at York University in Toronto, Ellen Bialystok, has found that students who study foreign languages obtain better results on tests than their monolingual peers, especially in the categories of math, reading, and vocabulary. Learning other languages alter grey matter - the area of the brain which processes information – in the same way exercise builds muscles.

Study or live abroad
As we know, many people prefer study or live in other countries, thats why it's important to know foreign languages. The same in a case of Erasmus. Unfortunatelly it's widely known that there are petter opportunities to find a job f.ex. in England than in Poland...

Discover new culture
Learning languages we also learn about the culture, literature, history etc. And sometimes we can learn really interesting facts ;)

Meet new people
I think everyone has at least one friend who doesn't speak polish, so it's a good reason to have an ability to comunicate with him/her in his/her language. It's a good oportunity for us to improve our skills, don't you think?

There many other reasons. And why do you learn foreign languages?

Friends

Hi :)

Today I'd like to write about one of my favourite TV series- Friends. I think everybody knows them, and I won't believe that exist at least one person who didn't see any of the episodes. I've seen every episode, some of them even twice. Usually I don't like TV series, but this one is really worth watching ;)

The series shows us a daily life of 6 friends, there are love, job, family and many other themes.

Rachel-  her hobby is fashion. She begins her carrer as a waitress in Central Perks, then she works in Bloomingdale and finally at Ralph Lauren's.

Phoebe- a massage therapist, singer and guitar player. She thinks that she is a medium.

Monica- works as a chef, she is very pedantic.

Ross- onica's brother, works as a paleontologist in a Museum.

Joey- my favourite ;). Actor, he likes girls very much ;)

Chandler- works as a businessmen, at the beginning shares a fat with Joey, but later he  becomes involved emotionally with Monica and they live together.

As a curiosity, I've found some things you ( me also) might not know about Friends, here are some of them:

1) Lisa Kudrow ( Phoebe) hated playing guitar at first- she learned just a couple of chords and decided that her character will use only them. That's why almost all of her songs have the same malody as famous ''smelly cat''

2)  The apartment numbers switched during the series- at the beginning of the series, Monica’s door had the number 5 on it. The producers later realized that didn’t make sense as Monica lived on a higher floor. They changed her apartment number to 20. The number on Chandler’s apartment changed as well—from 4 to 19.

3) The cast could've been different- both Jon Favreau and Jon Cryer were considered for the role of Chandler before it went to Matthew Perry; Kathy Griffin and Jane Lynch were auditioning for the part of Phoebe.

4)  Actors didn't always play well with animals- but their characters had to ;)

Here you can watch TOP 15 funniest friends moments. Enjoy!

How to train memory

Inspired by last English lesson, I decided to share with you some tricks to train memory and remember better, especially during studies ;) I've found 12 pieces of advice, here they are:

1) Crosswords
One of my favourites activities ;) (during free time of course!). Many times we can find the same words and definitions, and that's the way to remember them and also to learn new terms.

2) What happened during the day?
Try to remember all the things you've done during the day, then put them into chronological order. First it could seem a bit difficult, but practising every day you'll find it easier ;)

3) Board games, such as ''MEMORY''
I think I don't have to explain it ;)

4)  Mechanical learning
Lerning by heart f. ex. poems, numbers, directions etc

5) Fresh air
The best way to relax is to go for a long walk. Fresh air is very good for our brain, every day we should spend at least 15 minutes in a park or in any other place far from noises and air pollutions.

6) Physical excercises
They're crucial both for our physical and mantal condition. Doing exercises we provide our brain with blood, and then we can learn easier and more efficient.

7) Learn new subjects
Try to find some kind of subjects which may interest you, the best choice will be a foreign language, but not everyone feels a ''vocation'' to it. In that way we stimulate our brain cells.

8) Observe carefully
During walking try to concentrate on the environment, remember as much details as you could.

9) Read with comprehension
It's one of the easiest tricks, that's way it's crucial in learning languages. Reading we can learn new expressions and vocabulary.

10) Don't use ''helpers''
I shouldn't write it, as a student, but instead of writing everything in notebooks, we should remember them. But... is it possible?!

11) Associations
Creating some associations we can remember things better. I use it very often, so I recommend this technique ;)

12) Sleep!
Our brain, such us our all body, need to rest, that's why it's very important to sleep at least 8 hours every night (or day, it depends ;) ). But don't do it in school ;)

Do you know any other tricks? Maybe I'll try them out
